I remember when I was maybe 17 or 18,

I thought about the year 2012.

I did the math,

and learned that I would be 24 by that time.

My birthday is coming up in about 4 weeks.

I’ll be 24 this year of 2012.

It’s interesting how quickly my memories flashed back to that age.

It’s as quickly as when I was that age, calculating my current age.

The years really went by in a blink of eye.

I had seen a guy who looked just like Brad (let’s just call him Brad).

I was enjoying a plate of whole wheat tuscan pasta at Noodles & Co, and I looked up out the window.

There “he” was. He was in a white car on the side of the curb, talking to two friends. A girl was sitting in the driver’s seat. His curly dark hair caught my attention. His frameless glasses were also similar to what Brad would wear. He had squinty eyes. It wasn’t as intense as Brad’s but, they were still unique. He was more tan and probably weighed less.

He must have felt someone looking at me, because he kept glancing right over at me while talking to his friends. I kept my gaze, and did not look away once. It was a safe distance where I did not feel embarrassed to stare.

After they had said their good-byes, he looked at me once more for perhaps 2-3 seconds before finally turning to his female friend— who coincidentally, reminded me of myself.

It wasn’t him. It couldn’t have been. He’s in another state.

But, it brought me back to a time when we were so close.

I finished the last ribbons of my pasta and prepped my table neatly for clean-up and walked out towards the direction of him.

It was hot. The streets baked.

I walked right on by their car without turning back.

I got my paper back from my English Composition class.

I realized that I write with a lot of words that convey uncertainty. lol

In example: ”probably”, “maybe”, “could”, “perhaps”, “sometimes”, “might”, “may”, etc.

But hey! Life is full of mysteries and uncertainties!

Who are we to deduce anything to its absolute form and make??

We’re only human.

My daddy inspires me. He’s my mentor. The more I spend time with him, the more I begin to see where my personality traits sprout from. I used to wish I was more like him. I now see that I already am like him. He cares about people. He loves to learn. He is self-driven. He is understanding. He listens. He is now retired and lives happily on our farm. He gardens and is a loving companion to my mother who works just as hard.

I’m proud to be his little girl.
